Voter Registration Rate

What does this measure?

The percentage of the voting-age population (18 and over) that is registered to vote.

Why is this important?

Voter registration is a gauge of interest and participation in the political process.

How is the region performing?

Between 80% and 91% of the Mid-Hudson Valley region's voting-age population has been registered to vote since 2010, consistent with the state (excluding NYC) rates (81% to 89%). Voter registration in the region stayed steady with 89% of residents registering to vote in 2022. The region's peak occurred in 2020, when 91% of residents were registered to vote. The 2022 rate in Columbia County, at 96%, was the highest in the region with Greene and Sullivan having the lowest rates at 86% for both.
