As a community we strive to create an environment where all children are safe, supported and prepared to make sound decisions. Adequate early childhood supports provide our children with the opportunities to become the healthy and productive citizens of tomorrow.
Unfortunately, children face numerous threats to their optimal development, both inside and outside their homes. To gauge the risks children face, we examine measures of:
- Children living in poverty
- Children raised by single parents
- Child abuse and neglect
- Foster care admissions
- Rates of teen pregnancy and teen mothers
- Youth crime as measured by rates of juvenile delinquency
